If you had to put together a list of the top 10 symphonies ever written, Anton Dvořák’s (pronounced vor-jacques in case you wondered) Symphony No. 9, better known as the ‘New World Symphony’ would almost certainly be in it. Yes, it’s grand and powerful, but more than anything it’s just absolutely packed with great tunes. Even if you think you don’t know the symphony, you probably actually do, as music from it has been so often used in films, TV and even bread adverts…
Also on the programme is Beethoven’s stunningly beautiful piano concerto and a piece by Benn Lunn whose music has been described as ‘other-worldly’.
